Workshop on Seerfish in Malaysian Water using ASPIC in Collaboration with DOF Malaysia, 19-23 December 2021, Hotel Grand Continental, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.
The workshop on Seerfish in Malaysian Water using ASPIC in Collaboration with DOF Malaysia was held on 19th to 23rd December 2021 at Grand Continental Hotel in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. A total of 18 participants from SEAFDEC/MFRDMD and DOF Malaysia-SWG Neritic Tuna members. This collaboration involved the uses of Malaysia’s catch and effort data for seerfish (Scomberomorus commerson and Scomberomorus guttatus ). This collaboration also involved a teaching staff (resource person), Mr. Sallehudin Jamon from DOF Malaysia. The objective of this workshop was to train the participants on CPUE standardization and stock assessment analysis using ASPIC, Kobe plot (stock status trajectory) decision making tool for management and other relevant program and to identify the stock and risk assessment for 2 seerfish species namely: i) S. commerson and ii) S. guttatus in Malaysian waters. During this workshop, Mr. Sallehudin Jamon from gave lecture and guide in data extraction from COGNOS and running the software for stock and risk assessment namely: i) CPUE Standardization, ii) ASPIC Batch Job, iii) Kobe II Risk Matrix, and iv) Kobe Plot I&II. At the end of this workshop, all participants were presenting their final output of stock and risk assessment based on the data assigned. Lastly, based on this internal practical workshop, a report will be published and shared with all AMSs for their reference and guidelines. These result also will be finalized and reported during the 7th Meeting of SWG for Stock Assessment on Neritic Tunas in the Southeast Asian Region scheduling in the third quarter of 2022.
