This study was carried in the West Coast and East Coast Peninsular of Malaysia. ISMAT was given the mandate to conduct the study specifically in the East Coast Peninsular of Malaysia. The three (3) species being studied are mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta), squid (Loligo chinensis) and Kawakawa (Euthynnnus affinis). Samples were collected at Tok Bali, Kelantan on monthly basis and the biological parameters were recorded at ISMAT laboratory discretely.
This project aimed to obtain biological data, estimated spawning season, stock status and current exploitation rate for the three (3) species. Aside, information Catch Per Unit effort (CPUE), catch composition and total landing of the gear used during the study duration was acquired also. The results of the study are useful in formulating fisheries management plan in managing sustainable fisheries especially for these three (3) species.
